Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become popular were not successful. Two record labels signed her and then dropped her before she had made any music. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with only modest approval with the track that was its title. Perry became a bigger star several months later with the single "I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the fascination of sexuality accompanied by a rough electro-pop beat. The song quickly stirred debate as some critics accused it for promoting same-sex relations while others claimed that the sexually explicit scene the song depicted sparked men's fantasies about sexuality among females. The combination of titillation, polished melody and a catchy chorus helped to make it a top ten song in a variety of countries. It led to the album One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with its second hit single also was a hit. The album Perry created by herself sold more than 3 million copies.
